HUMBOLDT ARTISTS!  WE WANT YOUR ART!!

McKinleyville Ace Home & Garden Center is calling on Humboldt’s creative community to design artwork for our new 80% recycled cotton canvas tote bags!

We’re looking for original artwork that feels unmistakably Humboldt: Redwoods, coastline, gardening, local life, or your own creative take on what makes this place home. And while it’s not required, our Bigfoot mascot is always a favorite around here. 

THE DESIGN

Your artwork must:

  • Include “McKinleyville Ace Home & Garden Center”

  • Include “Humboldt’s Helpful Home Center”

  • Fit within a 10" × 10" print area

  • Use a maximum of 3 solid ink colors

  • Have no gradients or transparency

  • Be original, non-AI-generated artwork

  • Be suitable for screen printing

The tote is natural tan canvas, feel free to incorporate the bag color into your artwork through negative space ( the tan does not count toward your 3-color limit). 

WHO CAN SUBMIT?

This call is open to artists who live, work, attend school, or create art in Humboldt County. Artists under 18 may enter with parent/guardian permission.

Each artist may submit up to 3 designs.

HOW TO SUBMIT

  • Email your design to harlyn@mckinleyvilleace.com

  • Deadline: Sunday, September 14 at 11:59 PM

  • PDF preferred. We’ll also accept high-resolution PNG, JPG, SVG, AI, or EPS files.

  • Please include your name, phone number, and a brief description of your design.

IF WE CHOOSE YOUR DESIGN

This is not a contest! The McKinleyville Ace team will review submissions together, and we may purchase more than one design!

For each design selected, the artist will receive:

$500 + TWO FINISHED TOTE BAGS

Selected artists will begin being contacted Wednesday, September 16th and will also be featured on our social media and website.

ARTWORK RIGHTS

You keep full ownership of your artwork unless we choose to purchase it.

If selected, the $500 payment purchases full ownership and 100% of the rights to the final design for McKinleyville Ace Home & Garden Center. Selected artists will be asked to provide the original/high-resolution artwork and sign a brief rights assignment before payment.

By submitting, you confirm that the artwork is your own original creation, contains no AI-generated imagery, and does not infringe on another person’s intellectual property.

Our Community

The support of our community is a huge part of our success. We are proud to be able to return that support through donations to local organizations and our Youth Education Hot Dog Sales program.

We are proud to be able to support our community through the many non-profit organizations we assist throughout the year. Organizations requesting donations of goods or services can download and complete our Donation Request Form using the button below. Completed Donation Requests may be turned in to the store to any manager on duty. Requests are reviewed by the General Manager’s office and may take two to three weeks to process.

Youth Education Hot Dog Sales

Our Hot Dog Sales are not just about fundraising. As a young man, store owner and General Manager Kevin Jenkins learned the value of hard work and the feelings of success and self-worth that came with earning money to fund his extracurricular activities. These experiences as a young man have led to his success today. Through his support of the Hot Dog Sales Program here at McKinleyville Ace Home & Garden Center, he hopes to give youth groups today that same experience.

Youth groups that participate in our hot dog sale program are required to have an adult present, but are run by the youth themselves as much as possible. This gives them the opportunity to learn a variety of skills including cash handling and customer service, and that feeling of satisfaction at seeing their work pay off at the end of the weekend.

  • Hot Dog sales are scheduled as a two-day weekend event, Saturday and Sunday from 11 to 4. Hot Dog Sales generally run from May through September and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Interested organizations may pick up a packet and return it to the store for processing.

  • For a typical 2-day event we provide:

    • Electric hot dog roaster

    • 200 hot dogs

    • 200 hot dog buns

    • 200 sodas

    • Condiments

    • Pop-up tent

    • 2 8-foot banquet tables

    • Cooler and ice

    • Hand sanitizer

    • Clorox Wipes

    • Wash station

    • Napkins

    • Gloves

    • Cash box
